The Key to a Better Life - Controlling Your Mind

Everything that passes through your mind has an effect on your happiness, how you feel, your optimism, your overall success, and your general outlook on life. These thoughts are of two kinds: focussed and wandering. And associated with them are what is called the focussed mode and the wandering mode (which is usually referred to as the default mode). In the default mode your thoughts change quickly, are not focussed, usually have no order, and for the most part are not under your control. This article will show you that the focussed mode is much more desirable for happiness and contentment.
The Focussed Mode and the Default Mode
In the focussed mode your thoughts are under your control. They are directed at something you are interested in and they are concentrated on a particular topic or subject. When you are in this mode you are not worried about anything. You are preoccupied, and your attention is directed so intently you feel no stress. You are occupied with events of the present.
In the default mode, on the other hand, your thoughts "float" through your mind, with most of them directed at the past or future. You think about mistakes you made in the past, things you should have done differently. You also worry about the future, and questions like "What if... ?" start to form. In general, most of your thoughts in the default mode are negative, and if not controlled will eventually lead to anxiety, depression, and loss of sleep. Strangely, the default mode is, to a large degree, built into us early on, and it can become a habit that is hard to break.
For people who spend a lot of time in the default mode (a lot of time with their mind wandering), life can get boring and uninteresting. They lose their joy of living and drag themselves through each day. In the default mode we frequently don't know what we want, and when we get it, we immediately want something new. We're never satisfied. So it's important to get out of the default mode before it starts to overcome you.
How to Achieve the Focussed Mode
To get out of the default mode and into the focussed mode usually takes a serious effort. Of course you'll never be able to stay in the focussed mode all the time, and you shouldn't strive for this. All you really need is to be there most of the time. And to do this you have to concentrate on the present, and forget the past and future (as much as possible). This requires what is called attention training, which is training your brain to focus on the present. When your mind wanders to the past or future, or to negative thoughts in general, bring it back to the present as quickly as possible. Try to see how long you can stay in the focussed mode. In particular, try to gradually increase it.
There are, of course, many things that can help you with this. Two of the main things you want to achieve with it are joy and contentment. Everyone wants to be happy and experience joy, and at the same time they want contentment. Think of the main things that bring you joy. Make a list of them, and when you find yourself moving into the default mode, think about the things that bring you joy and contentment. Go over them in your mind.
Gratitude and Acceptance
Gratitude and acceptance are two of the major things that bring you joy and contentment. So it's important to concentrate on them. As in the case of joy, make up a gratitude list (it will probably be longer than your joy list). Think of everything you are grateful for. This should include such things as your family, financial situation, your health, your job security, your friends and so on. And even if some of these things are not as great as you would like them to be, it's important to remember that they could be worse. Most people - particularly when they are young - take their health for granted. But think about how you would feel if you lost it. We almost never think about the air we breathe. But many people struggle for air every day. And if you're young you likely assume cancer and heart disease affect only the old. But of course this isn't always the case.
Acceptance is also critical. It's important to have goals and motivation, but if you're never content you've got a problem. You may be postponing joy and happiness, and you may never get it. The idea is to accept what can't be changed, and put your energy into what can be changed. You have to learn to recognize each of these cases and take appropriate action. Life is too short to be fighting things that cannot possibly be changed (or have little chance of change). Non-acceptance can be hard on your health. Finally, it's particularly important to remember that this moment in your life will never come again. So enjoy it.
In conclusion remember that your thoughts have a lot to do with your happiness and health throughout your life, and it is important to control them. Stay away from the default mode as much as possible, and the way to do this is to concentrate on gratitude and acceptance. This will lead to greater joy and contentment.

Law of Attraction – A Simple Understanding

Have you ever heard of the law of attraction? If you haven’t by now here is the Law of Attraction explained in easy to understand format.

“The Secret”, DVD & book, certainly continues to attract attention from many readers & followers. The book continues to list as a top seller as does the DVD. Law of Attraction has certainly worked for this book! There are many perspectives on the use of the law of attraction. Here is a simple explanation to get you started on understanding the process.

Have you ever noticed when things go well, everything seems to be going well? We seem to be in a flow of synchronicity with all aspects of our lives operating smoothly. Work tasks, relationships, grocery shopping, whatever you’re doing, all seem to gel.

Conversely, when things go “wrong”, it can seem like everything goes wrong. Your alarm clock fails to go off, traffic is slow, people at work are irritable, & you spill your coffee on your clothes. The “conspiracy” to get you is in full swing.

Law of attraction says like energies attract. This follows the premise that we are all energy, everything in our world is energy, & we can influence the energy with our thoughts. Quantum physics substantiates this belief. So positive thoughts would attract positive energy & negative thoughts attract negative energy. Granted, what is “positive” & “negative” can be subjective. So look at this as to create what you want, you generate energy that matches what you want.
Good health comes from thoughts & beliefs about good health. Thoughts such as “I get sick all the time,” or “I always catch something from the office” are congruent with the energy of illness. We attract prosperity with thoughts congruent with prosperity. “I don’t have enough money” does not match prosperity energy & does not attract more money.
The same would be true regarding your belief about relationships, people in general, & what you can achieve in your life. The law of attraction is not just about “thinking” your way to your desires. But our thoughts can have a huge influence with the energy we create around accomplishing our goals & desires.
With the proper mindset, you can be led to actions & circumstances that attract what you desire. Your life energy flow would be congruent with what you desire. You feel in the groove. You are in full control of who you are, what you have, & what you’re experiencing in your life.Manage your energy & you manage your life.

Believing In The Law of Attraction

Believing In The Law of Attraction.

I remember the year I became a firm believer in The Law of Attraction. At the time I didn't realize this was what I was experiencing. I thought I had an unshakable belief in God or The Universe, I didn't want to deny it, but I couldn't name it.

The year was 2006.  We lived in a run down house that the landlord wouldn't fix. It had no warmth, was a total health hazard to my four boys whom were/are asthmatics. We were behind with the rent, my power bill was almost $1200 in arrears, I was almost 6 months pregnant with my only daughter and I was sinking below the waterline. I knew we needed a new house but I thought my chances were pretty slim as I was in arrears with the current house.

It had gotten to the point where I could only send the two school aged boys to school 4 days a week as I wasn't even able to put a simple lunchbox together for them. In saying that, I always had something in the cupboards to be able to bake, bread, scones or pikelets, just not stuff suitable for school lunch boxes like fruit and sandwich fillings and treats.

I was new to the area so I didn't know a soul, I suffered from panic attacks and PTSD so found it very hard to let anyone into my life. I did my job of taking care of my children as best as I could. When they weren't looking, I would cry and cry, wondering how on earth I was going to get us all through this.

I was thumbing through one of the weekly newspapers and I stumbled upon the Oh Mary Mother of God Prayer...I had seen it many times before and thought pfffft, God was hardly going to give me a second look. But this day, I was so desperate, I found myself saying this prayer over and over. I wrote it down, over and over. I cried buckets saying this prayer. I remember being so broken it was like standing outside myself, I could hear this howling and heart wrenching sobbing..I could see myself, crumpled in a heap on the floor...it was so hard to believe it was me.

Skip ahead to 3 days later, I applied for a suitable house, I had no choice as I'd been given my marching orders the week before as to why I was finally in a desperate situation...enough to pray anyway. I didn't think I would get the house, many had applied for it as it was 4 bedroom, fire, garage and well fenced. I thought I had two shows of getting it...No show and $hit show.
However, I went to the interview, and was straight up with this lovely older couple about my situation. The man was a pastor from the local church and his wife was an active member in the community. I invited them to the current house to show the conditions we were living under.

Unbelievably I got the house!

This was not the end of my big lesson in the Law of Attraction. I started to pack up the old house wondering how I was going to get my power company to transfer my account to the new house while letting me still have power. Next thing I knew I had a major complication with my pregnancy and I was rushed to hospital. I had an abruption of the placenta, unknown to anyone I had pre-eclampsia! My daughter was drowning inside of me and I was bleeding to death internally.

Now you must be thinking, how is this relevant to the Law of Attraction, or this woman must of done something pretty radical to be attracting this kind of Karma, but this was what I would of termed "God acting in mysterious ways" but I didn't know it at the time.

Now remember, I was only 6 months pregnant, so when I arrived at the hospital, where all the Dr's were on strike at the time (my kind of luck!) I wrote my daughter off, believing I had already lost her when they rushed me in for emergency surgery, no prep, nothing...straight to theatre.

I remember waking up in recovery, hearing two nurses talking about a little girl (1030grams), I bolted upright and asked were they talking about my baby? Did I have a living baby? I was stunned she was actually alive. They wheeled me into the ICU in the NeoNatal ward and I met my beautiful little girl for the first time.

There were people in overalls surrounding her tiny body, tubes and machines and veiled whispers. I didn't realize they we're the specialist neonatal team, flown in from another major hospital. They were here trying to save my girl's life.
I was wheeled out so they could do their job. Having me there was making it difficult for them to work, it was so surreal. She was flown to the hospital that was equipped to deal with her and I was left in my local hospital as I was too unwell to fly with her.  I did however fly down the next day.

Whilst I was going through everything I had to deal with at home, I also had to deal with Dr's and nurses telling me not to get my hopes up. Brennagh had numerous problems due to her prematurity. I would sit by her, thinking this can't be true. Why would I be given her if I wasn't meant to keep her. I even remember striking up a deal with God or the Universe, my exact words were...Please don't take her, she's my only daughter, I will go through anything if I was allowed to keep her.

Little did I know I would be called out on this promise when Brennagh was 9 months old, however that's another story.

By day 4, I knew she was mine to keep. I had an unshakable faith regardless of what the medical profession were saying. I just knew!

Anyway, back to the point of the Law of Attraction. Whilst I was in hospital, the power company connected my new house, the new landlord, the pastor, got some of his congregation to shift my stuff. I didn't have to worry about a thing! And to top it off, it turned out the IRS was ripping me off $200 a week previous to going to hospital. No wonder I was doing it harder in the pocket!

I did have a relapse a week later as my hospital notes went missing and I wasn't given the blood transfusion I needed when Brennagh was born, but I didn't care, I was just so happy to have her and have my home life getting sorted. Bren was in hospital for a few months but I never thought for one moment I would lose her. One of the ladies that shifted my household is one of my dearest friends to this day. Through this house i began to meet some wonderful people.

Even when I came home, I wasn't 'allowed' to go back to my hermit lifestyle. Bren's complications meant I had all sorts of medical people and therapists visiting every week. It felt like someone was visiting daily and they mostly were!

Since we're talking about the Law of Attraction, don't for one minute think the Universe won't call you out on your promises or goals! Mine was tested when Brennagh was 9 months. We spent a lot of time in and out of hospital. Bren never ate like a normal child and we didn't know why. After one hospital stay, surgery for a mal-rotation, and numerous tests, the dreaded news came back that Brennagh had Trisomy 18 (Edwards Syndrome).

After I settled down from the initial shock and horror of what that meant for us as a family...my promise at her birth came back to haunt me..it still does when 'life gets tough!' And I always suck it up and be very grateful I still have my little girl...I wouldn't have it any other way. Living with Brennagh and her condition gave me a complete attitude check and one I hold on to every day. She has made me a better person. All the weaknesses have gone, all the 'I can't attitude' or 'it's too hard' evaporated..those expressions are well and truly cast out of my life.  I love my life and I  love what the future has in store for me.

I hope this will inspire anyone to never give up and always believe in the best for yourself and your loved ones. Life really is what you think.

Until next time I wish you all the very best in life.
